Spanish bullfighter Jordi Pérez wounded in neck during Peru festival

Jordi Pérez, the 24‑year‑old Spanish matador known as “El Niño de las Monjas,” was injured on 30 July 2026 while bullfighting in the town of Huallanca, Bolognesi province, Ancash region, Peru. A 9‑centimetre horn strike to the front of his neck caused a serious wound that did not damage major arteries, veins or the trachea, but required immediate medical attention.

Because the local health centre was closed, Pérez was first stabilised by video consultation with Dr César Baltazar. He was then transported on a stretcher for about three hours to the Victor Ramos Hospital in Huaraz, where surgeons performed a successful operation. Pérez is now breathing unaided, remains stable and is expected to be discharged within a few days.

The incident has drawn attention to emergency response capabilities at small‑town bullfighting festivals in Peru.
