Spanish cinema highlights Berlanga legacy and Mostra de València opening
The Spanish film industry is highlighting significant cultural milestones, ranging from the legacy of legendary director Luis García Berlanga to upcoming festival openings. The term ‘berlanguiano’ has been officially recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy to describe the chaotic and vital cinematic style characteristic of Berlanga’s work. His enduring influence is being celebrated through exhibitions at CaixaForum Zaragoza and theatrical adaptations of his classics, such as ‘La escopeta nacional’, at the Teatro Español in Madrid.
In Valencia, the 41st Mostra de València will open on November 3 at the Sala Iturbi with the film ‘El mal padre’, directed by Roberto Bueso. The film, which follows a writer reuniting with his estranged children, was filmed in the Valencian Community and features a cast including Eduard Fernández and Adam Jezierski. The festival also recently announced that director Iciar Bollaín will receive the Palmera de Honor.
