Spanish cinema highlights social issues at major film festivals

The Spanish film industry is highlighted through new cinematic works presented at major festivals. The black-and-white film follows a projectionist in Córdoba, Argentina, who loses his job and home, eventually living secretly within a cinema. The work serves as a political commentary on the precarious state of culture and cinema in Argentina.

At the San Sebastian Film Festival, details were revealed regarding ‘El castillo’, a new six-episode series produced by Movistar Plus. Created by Isa Peña and inspired by Mabel Lozano’s book ‘El proxeneta’, the series explores the exploitation of women and the mechanics of sexual trafficking. Directed by Elena Martín and Sandra Romero, the production aims to depict the dehumanization inherent in the industry while maintaining a sensitive approach to the portrayal of its victims.
