Spanish cinema icons Berlanga and Azcona celebrated

A new graphic novel titled ‘Berlanguiano’, created by illustrator Vicente Montalbá and writer Luis Ponce, explores the life and work of influential Spanish director Luis García Berlanga. Published by Cascaborra, the work focuses on the anecdotal episodes that shaped the filmmaker's identity and his signature cinematic style.

Complementing the legacy of Berlanga is the career of screenwriter Rafael Azcona, a key figure in European cinema. Azcona, known for his collaboration with Berlanga on films such as ‘Plácido’ and ‘El verdugo’, also had a significant impact on international cinema through his work in Italy and collaborations with directors like Carlos Saura and Fernando Trueba. His body of work includes the Oscar-winning ‘Belle Époque’ and numerous collaborations with actor José Luis López Vázquez.
