Spanish cities adjust public transport for new school year

Municipal transport services in Madrid and Tarragona are implementing measures to accommodate the start of the new school year.

In Madrid, the City Council will offer free use of EMT municipal buses on September 7 and 8. This initiative aims to encourage public transport use as city activity returns to normal levels following the summer period. Additionally, the Bicimad bike-sharing service will be free for trips of up to 30 minutes during those same two days.

In Tarragona, the EMT is launching its annual subscription campaign for the new academic year. To manage the expected increase in demand from students and families, the company is reinforcing its customer service centers with additional staff throughout September. The transition to the new school year also coincides with the implementation of winter bus schedules and the discontinuation of the L-16 beach special line.
