Spanish cities expand addiction prevention and care resources
Municipalities in Spain are expanding efforts to combat addiction through increased resources and strategic planning. In Madrid, the City Council has reported attending to 8,879 people so far this year. During a visit to the Hortaleza Addiction Care Center, Vice Mayor Inmaculada Sanz Otero highlighted the work of Madrid Salud in supporting individuals and their families. The city’s priorities include early prevention and support for adolescents and young people at risk of addiction, focusing on social and labor integration.
In Córdoba, the Local Government has approved the development of a Local Addiction Prevention Plan. This initiative aims to integrate prevention into municipal policies regarding youth, coexistence, and community life. The process is expected to take one year and will involve four phases, including the creation of a strategic alliance and a coordination commission. The plan will also include a community participation phase to gather input from families, youth, and social entities to promote healthy leisure and socialization options.
