Argentina tourism: traveler numbers rise but economic impact falls FAST-MOVING

Argentina's October holiday weekend saw approximately 1.49 million tourists travel across the country, according to reports from the Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (CAME). While the number of travelers increased by 3.5% compared to the same period in 2025, the total economic impact fell by 2.2% in real terms, reaching $313,610 million.

The decline in total economic activity is attributed to a 10% decrease in the average length of stay, which dropped from two days to 1.8 days. This shift indicates a growing trend toward shorter, local getaways and last-minute bookings. Despite shorter stays, the average daily expenditure per tourist rose by 5% in real terms to $116,900.

Regional performance varied significantly. In Catamarca, San Fernando del Valle saw a 65% hotel occupancy rate and an economic impact exceeding $680 million. Tucumán reported high occupancy in areas like San Javier and Monteros, while Córdoba welcomed over 287,000 visitors, generating an estimated $50 billion in economic impact. Mendoza also saw a 39% nominal increase in daily tourist spending. In Trelew, hotel occupancy reached 90% due to various cultural and sporting events.

Travel costs remain a factor for families; a study by UADE noted that a family of four required an average of $1,072,600 for transport and lodging, representing 53% of an average formal salary.
