Spanish cities Huelva and Alicante launch major public‑space redevelopment projects

The Huelva municipal government has begun work on the future Plaza de la Provincia in the La Orden neighbourhood. The project will revamp more than 3,000 m² of Avenida Diego Morón into an accessible, green plaza with a central boulevard, ramps, and a symbolic rose of the winds representing the province’s comarcas. The total investment is €1.2 million, with €846,000 allocated to urban works and around €400,000 for renaturalisation and revegetation.

In Alicante, the city council is planning a green corridor that would convert the existing coastal railway line into a pedestrian and cycling route linking the city centre, the port and the airport. The scheme is part of the city’s structural plan and is tied to the creation of 12,300 new homes in former industrial zones. The corridor will integrate with other green projects such as the 19‑km Green Belt and the future Central Park, enhancing non‑motorised mobility across the metropolitan area.
