Spanish cities pursue European cultural and sporting titles

Cáceres is advancing its bid to become a European Capital of Culture in 2031. After passing the initial selection phase, the city is now among four Spanish finalists. Jorge Suárez, the Councilor for Culture, describes the initiative as a collective project involving institutions, creators, and citizens to foster regional development in Extremadura.

Meanwhile, Ciudad Real has unanimously approved a candidacy to be named a European City of Sport for 2028. The proposal, submitted to ACES Europe, highlights the city's sports infrastructure, its support for over 60 clubs, and its 3,200 federated athletes. The recognition aims to promote sport as a tool for health, well-being, and social inclusion.
