Spanish cities tighten safety rules for summer festivals

Valencia is preparing for the Noche de San Juan with a massive municipal operation. More than 1,000 officials from police, cleaning and mobility services will be on duty, including 300 officers, drones and a dedicated command post on the north beach. About 25 tonnes of wood will be distributed for authorized bonfires, which are permitted only on the northern beaches, while traffic restrictions and additional public‑transport capacity are in place for the expected 100,000 participants.

In Alicante, police have closed the Mercadito de Hogueras for the first time to prevent crowding during the Ofrenda de Flores parade. The closure runs from 16:30 to 22:30, allowing buses carrying participants to reach the parade route without congestion. Officers are deployed to keep the avenue clear and ensure a smooth start to the historic procession that ends at the Cathedral of San Nicolás.
