Spanish Civil War 90th anniversary marked by literature and exhibition

To mark the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, various cultural and literary works are revisiting the pivotal events of 1936. In his work Zenda, author José Ángel Mañas provides a day-by-day recreation of the conflict, detailing specific historical moments such as the command of the Fifth Regiment by Enrique Líster, the Yagüe crisis, and the surrender in Sama.

Additionally, the NOVA FCSH in Portugal is hosting an exhibition titled ‘1936-1939: Espanha fraturada’ (Spain Fractured) from September 29 to November 14, 2026. The exhibition utilizes library collections and propaganda posters to examine the ideological fractures and the lasting impact of the war on modern European and Spanish identity.
