Spanish Civil War artillery shell deactivated in Abánades

The Guardia Civil has deactivated an artillery projectile dating back to the Spanish Civil War. The object was discovered by a farmer on a property located in the municipality of Abánades, in the province of Guadalajara.

Following a report via the 062 emergency line, a patrol from Trillo arrived at the scene to secure the area. The explosive was subsequently handled and deactivated by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (SEDEX) based in Valdemoro.

Authorities have issued warnings regarding the extreme danger of such artifacts. They noted that while these objects can remain latent for long periods, rust and deterioration can create a false sense of security. The Guardia Civil advises citizens not to touch, move, or transport such items, as any minimal intervention could trigger an explosion.
