Santi Denia appointed as Czech Republic's first foreign football coach
Spanish coach Santi Denia has been appointed head coach of the Czech Republic men’s national football team, becoming the first foreign manager in the squad’s history. He signed a two‑year contract with an option to extend for another two years and will be assisted by fellow Spaniard Pablo Amo.
Denia replaces Miroslav Koubek, who resigned after the Czech side’s poor performance at the 2026 World Cup. His résumé includes leading Spain’s Olympic team to gold at the Paris 2024 Games and winning the European U‑17 (2017) and U‑19 (2019) championships. The Czech Football Association announced a monthly salary of about €70,000 (≈ 1.7 million CZK) for Denia, with Amo earning roughly €40,000.
His first competitive match will be on 26 September 2026, when the Czech Republic hosts Croatia in the Nations League. The federation’s stated goal is to build a long‑term project that will qualify the team for Euro 2028 and raise the overall standard of Czech football.
