Spanish coastal towns boost beach safety for summer

In the Galician municipalities of Valdoviño and Ortigueira, local authorities have increased beach safety staffing for the summer season. Valdoviño deployed 30 lifeguards and a coordinator, working daily from 12:00 to 20:00, with a budget of more than €100,000. Ortigueira expanded its team to ten lifeguards and reinstated the Blue Flag and Concha Morouzo quality marks after a decade.

Further north, the town of Dénia in the Valencian Community launched a comprehensive security operation that includes 64 lifeguards, all‑terrain vehicle patrols, a police boat, and heightened protection of a marine reserve. The initiative also adds new tourist facilities such as four beach bars, a second "Biblioplay" reading area, and intensified beach cleaning equipment.

Both regions aim to ensure the safety of bathers, protect the coastal environment, and support the influx of tourists during the peak summer months.
