Spanish coastal towns launch summer festivals in Islas Menores and Manacor
The coastal district of Islas Menores, near Cartagena, marked the main day of its patronal celebrations on 5 August with a solemn mass and procession honoring the Virgin of the Snows. Local officials including councilor Álvaro Valdés and councilor Francisca Martínez attended, and the programme will continue with live music, children’s contests, gastronomic fairs and a final foam party on 16 August.
On Mallorca, the s’Illot neighbourhood of Manacor began its summer festival series on 13 August, running until 23 August. Mayor Miquel Oliver, delegate Júlia Acosta and community representatives opened the events with a parade, a municipal band concert and a series of activities such as workshops, sports tournaments, traditional dances and nightly concerts. The schedule also features a historic‑themed programme, a correfoc fire‑run and a closing “llevada” of boats on the beach.
Both towns aim to blend traditional customs with new attractions to strengthen community identity and draw visitors.
