Spanish coastal towns upgrade beach facilities to save water and improve accessibility

The Port of Sóller has permanently removed six beach showers that were out of service and activated foot‑washing stations as a temporary water‑saving measure. The municipal authority says the change is part of a broader plan to install more efficient foot‑cleaning devices and reduce water consumption during drought periods.

In Sanxenxo, the Silgar beach inaugurated a 14‑metre by 5.5‑metre aluminium bioclimatic pergola designed for people with reduced mobility. Donated by Grupo Indalsu and costing €45,000, the structure features LED perimeter lighting and adjustable louvers that provide natural ventilation and a 20‑year anti‑corrosion guarantee. The beach also received the “S” tourism sustainability label this year.
