Spanish creators Laura Pérez and Javier Rodríguez win Eisner Awards

At the 2024 Eisner Awards ceremony in San Diego, the comic‑industry’s most prestigious honors were awarded to two Spanish creators. Laura Pérez received the Best International Material (English Language) award for her graphic novel Nocturnos, published in English by Fantagraphics after its original Spanish release by Astiberri. Javier Rodríguez won three Eisner trophies, including Best Penciller, for his work with major U.S. publishers such as Marvel and DC.

Rodríguez was absent from the gala, opting instead to perform a concert in memory of friends, while Pérez attended the event. The Eisners, often likened to the Oscars of comics, highlighted the growing international recognition of Spanish comic art.

Both winners praised the awards as a milestone for Spanish creators, noting the increased visibility of their work beyond national borders.
