Spanish Congress censures Education Minister Milagros Tolón
The Spanish Congress of Deputies has passed a motion of censure against the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, Milagros Tolón. The motion, supported by the PP, Vox, Junts, and UPN, criticizes the Minister's management following the PISA 2025 report, which showed a decline in Spanish students' performance in reading, mathematics, and science.
The resolution also targets the management of the school year start in Ceuta. It urges the government to take necessary measures for the return of individuals who entered Ceuta irregularly. For foreign minors, the motion calls for their return to their family environments or transfer to the protection services of their country of origin after proper identification and age determination.
Additionally, the Congress approved points demanding the guarantee of security, emotional well-being, and equal opportunities for students in Ceuta by removing guidelines that could harm academic performance. While the motion calls on President Pedro Sánchez to dismiss Tolón to prioritize education on the political agenda, the censure itself is a declaration of disapproval without direct legal effects to force a dismissal.
