Spanish Congress summons officials for DANA flood investigation

Vicente Mompó, President of the Valencia Provincial Council, and Salomé Pradas, former Minister of Justice and Interior, have been summoned to appear before the Spanish Congress's DANA investigative commission on September 28.

The commission is tasked with clarifying political responsibilities regarding the management of the catastrophic flooding on October 29, 2024, which resulted in 232 deaths. This will mark the second time both officials have testified before the body.

During previous hearings in late 2025, Mompó stated that there was a delay in sending Es-Alert messages and a lack of sufficient information to make adequate decisions, noting the absence of a coordinated ‘national response’ to the disaster. Pradas, who held emergency management responsibilities, previously acknowledged ‘errors’ but defended her actions, stating she remained ‘at the institutional forefront’ during the crisis.
