Spanish Constitutional Court to rule on amnesty for Catalan leaders

The Spanish Constitutional Court is proceeding with its scheduled plenary session this week, despite recent political announcements regarding early elections. The court's agenda focuses on rulings that could facilitate the return of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont.

The session aims to address cases involving Jordi Turull and Dolors Bassa. Following a previous rejection of a conservative proposal by magistrate José María Macías, the court's progressive majority is expected to uphold the application of the amnesty law to the crime of embezzlement (malversación).

Two specific sentencing proposals are on the agenda: one drafted by President Cándido Conde-Pumpido regarding Dolors Bassa, and a revised proposal by Macías regarding Jordi Turull. These rulings are intended to revoke previous Supreme Court decisions and mandate the application of amnesty to the individuals involved.
