Spanish consumers favor human oversight in AI financial tools

A new international report titled ‘AI in Risk: The Rise of Agentic Commerce,’ produced by Experian in collaboration with Forrester Consulting, reveals that Spanish consumers favor a hybrid approach to artificial intelligence in financial decision-making.

According to the study, 69% of Spanish consumers prefer a model where AI and human intervention coexist. While there is significant interest in using AI agents to anticipate financial problems, compare options, and detect fraud, there is a strong preference for human control. Specifically, 87% of respondents value AI's ability to compare numerous options and detect unusual charges, and 87% trust Large Language Models (LLMs) to compare loans.

Regarding autonomy, 44% of consumers want AI to act only as a recommender, leaving the final decision to the user. Another 33% would accept a semi-autonomous model requiring express authorization for tasks, while only 3% would grant AI complete autonomy. Mariana Pinheiro, CEO of Experian EMEA & Asia Pacific, noted that financial institutions must prepare platforms for increased AI integration, particularly regarding security, identity, and governance.
