Spanish consumers shift toy purchasing patterns for holiday season

Spanish consumers are increasingly purchasing toys ahead of the Christmas and Three Kings Day holidays, a trend driven by several key factors. According to an Amazon study, 76% of consumers in Spain are advancing their purchases to secure lower prices, with 32% specifically utilizing Black Friday discounts. Additionally, 41% of buyers aim to avoid stock shortages, while 40% seek to bypass the stress of last-minute shopping. Only 3% of surveyed consumers wait until the days immediately preceding the holidays to complete their purchases.

Shopping habits show a strong trend toward omnichannel behavior. Half of the respondents split their toy purchases equally between online and physical stores, while 30% prioritize online channels and 21% prefer physical retail. The primary advantages cited for online shopping include the ability to shop anytime, avoiding crowds and traffic, product variety, and the convenience of home delivery.

Retail experts offer differing perspectives on the upcoming season. While some data suggests an early surge, industry professionals like Agustí Mestre note that economic conditions and high inflation may lead to a reduction in average transaction values. Meanwhile, retailers such as Aldi Spain observe a growing interest from younger shoppers in supermarket toy sections and the rise of the ‘kidult’ demographic—adults who purchase toys and collectibles traditionally associated with childhood.
