Spanish court and tech firm address artificial intelligence impacts
The High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJ) has issued a ruling regarding the use of artificial intelligence in collective redundancies. The court determined that the implementation of AI does not, by itself, constitute sufficient grounds for employee dismissals. In a case involving a video game studio, the court ruled that judges must evaluate the underlying changes in production models and economic justifications rather than the technology itself. While one employee's dismissal was upheld after the company cited AI as a means to improve efficiency and reduce production time, the court emphasized that the legality depends on how the technical and economic causes are documented.
In Ibiza, the technology company Infinitel is introducing new AI-driven solutions designed to automate business tasks and detect irregularities in the hospitality sector. Their Smart AI tool integrates with point-of-sale systems to monitor transactions, such as deleted items or modified tips, to identify potential staff fraud. The company has already begun commercializing these tools in Ibiza, Formentera, and other parts of Spain.
