Basque Court upholds legality of Xabi Alonso's residence

The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) has confirmed the legality of a villa owned by former footballer and coach Xabi Alonso in the Igeldo area of San Sebastián. The ruling determines that the construction complies with the established urban planning parameters.

Environmental group Haritzalde has criticized the decision, labeling it ‘incomprehensible’ and ‘incomplete.’ The group argues that the ruling fails to address six specific irregularities previously denounced, including disproportionate land occupation, excessive basement buildability, and a lack of public information regarding the project. Haritzalde intends to request a supplement to the sentence to resolve these outstanding points.

This decision follows a previous ruling by a San Sebastián court that had initially deemed the villa illegal for violating Basque land and urbanism laws. While the TSJPV has cleared the primary legal standing of the property, the legal dispute remains active as complainants seek further judicial clarification.
