Spanish courts convict man of insurance fraud and order municipal housing firm to pay €300k tax

The Tribunal Superior de Justicia of Madrid upheld the conviction of a man who fabricated a burglary of his home in Velilla de San Antonio to claim more than €252,000 from his insurer. The court ruled that he committed attempted fraud and crime simulation, ordering him to pay €15,111.87 plus legal costs, while his wife was acquitted of any knowledge of the scheme.

Spain's Supreme Court determined that Emuvijesa, the municipal housing company of Jerez, must pay roughly €300,000 to the Andalusian tax agency for the property‑transfer tax generated by a 2010 mortgage loan tied to a VPO development that was never constructed. The ruling confirms a liability of €247,000 plus interest for the unpaid tax.
