Spanish courts issue rulings regarding Sant Josep official misconduct and taxi licenses
The Spanish Supreme Court has upheld a sanction against a Civil Guard officer stationed in Sant Josep de la Talaia. The officer was ordered to undergo a 20-day loss of pay and suspension of duties after allowing a family of four tourists to occupy his assigned official residence at the Can Sifre barracks without authorization. The incident occurred in October 2023, when unauthorized visitors were discovered in the quarters. During the encounter, one visitor reportedly inquired about obtaining drugs within the facility, leading to his removal by authorities.
Separately, the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands has annulled the adjudication of seasonal taxi licenses for Sant Josep for the years 2022 and 2023. The court identified errors in how the municipality calculated the seniority of certain applicants. Specifically, the ruling noted that the town council incorrectly counted periods of self-employment as valid professional experience for certain candidates, which improperly altered the ranking of applicants. The court has ordered the City Council to create a new classification based on the correct established criteria.
