Spanish courts issue sentences in separate drug trafficking cases
Spanish courts have issued sentences in two separate drug trafficking cases in the regions of Badajoz and Ourense.
In Badajoz, the Provincial Court sentenced a man to two years in prison and a woman to 18 months as an accomplice after they were caught transporting over 200 grams of cocaine. The drugs, valued at approximately 51,000 euros, were found hidden in a sock inside the man's underwear during a police stop on the A-5 highway. The court applied mitigating circumstances due to the primary defendant's mental health disorders and substance addiction.
In Ourense, the Provincial Court finalized sentences for a criminal group operating in Verín. Following a plea agreement, the ringleader received a sentence of one year and ten months for drug trafficking, plus five months for membership in a criminal group, along with a 4,000-euro fine. Seven other accomplices, including his partner and various distributors, were sentenced to one year and six months for crimes against public health and five months for criminal organization, each facing a 3,000-euro fine. The investigation revealed the group operated a drug distribution point near several local schools.
