Spanish courts order retrial and acquit in separate sexual assault cases
The Andalusian High Court nullified the original judgment against a man accused of sexual abuse of a 16‑year‑old in Cádiz and ordered a new oral hearing before a different panel, stating that the original ruling lacked a rational justification and that the victim’s testimony was credible despite inconsistencies.
In a separate case, the Provincial Court of Valencia acquitted singer David Calvo Villa, known as “El Jincho,” and fellow performer Escol Osiris Reyes of alleged sexual assault on a disabled minor who attended their concert. The court cited reasonable doubt arising from contradictory victim statements, lack of coercive evidence in security footage, and testimonies from the victim’s friend and hotel staff. Both decisions are subject to appeal.
