Spanish courts rule on bribery complaint and school defamation lawsuit
The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has rejected a complaint filed by the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport against Juanfran Pérez Llorca, President of the Generalitat. The complaint alleged bribery regarding an invitation to the 2026 World Cup final. The court ruled that the facts do not constitute a crime, stating that receiving such an invitation is a “socially admitted practice” and that the allegations were based on “mere speculation” rather than solid evidence.
In a separate legal matter in Catalonia, the religious congregation Fills de la Sagrada Família, which owns the Pare Manyanet schools, has had a lawsuit admitted for processing. The congregation is seeking 70,000 euros in damages from the parents of two former students who died by suicide. The schools claim the parents' public statements regarding alleged school inaction on bullying and sexual harassment have violated their right to honor. The families view the lawsuit as an attempt to silence them ahead of upcoming judicial proceedings.
