Spanish courts sentence men in separate violent assault trials

A court in A Coruña sentenced a man accused of stabbing a former co‑worker in Rianxo. The prosecution described the attack as an attempted homicide with a 20‑centimetre knife, seeking 12 years for the attempted murder charge and an additional three‑and‑a‑half years for aggravated injuries.

In a separate hearing in Vigo, a man charged with trying to kill his ex‑wife using a homemade lance and a crowbar faced a prosecutor’s request for 17 years’ imprisonment. The court heard that the assault targeted vital areas of the body, leaving the victim unconscious, and the prosecution cited aggravating factors including prior homicide convictions and gender‑based violence.
