Spanish courts uphold housing and environmental rulings

The High Court of Justice of the Region of Murcia (TSJRM) has upheld a decision by the Cartagena City Council to exclude a woman from receiving protected housing. The applicant had renounced a similar housing unit only one month prior. The court ruled that the municipal action was lawful, noting that protected housing is a limited public resource governed by principles of equality and social necessity. The administration argued that allowing immediate re-assignment after a recent renunciation could disrupt the waiting lists and disadvantage other eligible applicants.

In Valencia, a court has validated the denial of a construction license for the Sidi Saler hotel due to its environmental impact on the Albufera Natural Park. The building, which stands at six stories, exceeds the municipal limit of two stories. The ruling supports the Valencia City Council and environmental groups, stating that the structure threatens the protected natural space and its dune systems. The property owner, Lukeson Management, seeks to rehabilitate the site, but the project remains blocked by the current urban planning regulations.
