Spanish cycling coach expelled from Montréal World Championships

Spanish sport director Eleuterio Anguita Hinojosas has been expelled from the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal following a dangerous driving incident. A viral video captured the Spanish team car traveling at high speeds during the men’s junior road race, causing the vehicle to briefly lift off the ground after hitting a pedestrian crossing.

While no injuries were reported, the UCI race jury sanctioned Anguita Hinojosas with a fine of approximately 1,000 Swiss francs and an exclusion from the remainder of the championships.

The incident occurred amidst significant success for the Spanish junior squad. Rider Benjamín Noval secured a double victory at the event, winning both the junior road race and the junior time trial.
