Spanish defender Mapi León signs with London City Lionesses
Defender Mapi León has left FC Barcelona after nine seasons and 23 official titles, including four UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies, to join English Women's Super League side London City Lionesses. The move makes her the second high‑profile Spanish player, after Alexia Putellas, to sign for the club owned by entrepreneur Michele Kang.
León said of Kang, “És una dona inspiradora” (She is an inspiring woman), and expressed excitement about contributing to a project that aims to grow women’s football in England. She described the transfer as the right moment to test herself in a new league and country.
The signing adds experience to London City Lionesses’ defensive line and signals the club’s intent to compete for titles in the WSL.
