Spanish Dental Societies Appeal Ministry's Rejection of Specialist Titles
The Spanish societies of Periodontology, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Endodontics and Prosthodontics, together with the General Council of Dentists, have lodged administrative appeals against the Ministry of Health's resolutions that denied the initiation of procedures to create six official specialist titles in dentistry. The appeals argue that the decisions were made without completing essential steps such as professional, health and university reports, a proportionality test, and a hearing, preventing the societies from correcting or improving their proposals.
In a separate development, researchers Alberto de la Llata Villaseñor and Diana Jazmín Guadarrama González of the Instituto Bioprogresivo de Ortodoncia are preparing a study on the use of calcitonin to inhibit external root resorption during orthodontic treatment. Their work reviews the biological mechanisms of resorption and cites earlier animal studies suggesting calcitonin may reduce osteoclastic activity and inflammation associated with orthodontic forces.
