Spanish lawmakers hold significantly higher property ownership than general population

Data from asset declarations reveals a significant disparity between the property ownership of Spanish lawmakers and the general population. In the Congress of Deputies, members hold an average of 1.6 properties, more than double the national average of 0.7. Approximately 45% of deputies own two or more homes, while 40% of the Spanish population owns none.

In the Senate, the 266 parliamentarians hold a combined real estate portfolio of 529 properties. Roughly 56% of senators own more than one residence. The Partido Popular (PP) holds the largest share of properties among the groups, with its 142 senators accounting for approximately 318 homes. Within the PP, 66% of members own multiple properties. The PSOE follows with 88 senators holding over 168 homes, with 53% owning more than one.

Individual wealth varies significantly; for example, some senators have declared up to thirteen homes and various commercial spaces. Additionally, nearly 19% of deputies are reported as rentiers, receiving income from property rentals.
