Spanish Design Pavilion honors Antoni Gaudí in Frankfurt

The Frankfurt Rhein-Main metropolitan region, currently serving as the World Design Capital 2026, is hosting the Spanish Design Pavilion. Located in the gardens of the Instituto Cervantes Frankfurt, the installation is titled ‘DRAC – Gaudí and the Urban Resonance Space’ and was created by Spanish architect José Ramón Tramoyeres.

The pavilion serves as a cultural hub for concerts, fashion shows, and exhibitions. It acts as a tribute to Antoni Gaudí, utilizing organic forms and colorful ceramic tiles inspired by his architectural legacy. The structure is designed with a focus on circularity, using a modular system that allows for dry assembly, reversible mechanical connections, and easy disassembly without a permanent foundation. The construction features a traditional Vareta technique using flexible wooden rods and is clad in over 14,000 individual ceramic pieces provided by members of the Tile of Spain association.
