Spanish dioceses celebrate centennial of DOMUND missionary work
The Dioceses of Ávila and Salamanca are launching initiatives to commemorate the centennial of DOMUND (World Mission Sunday).
In Ávila, the Diocese is inaugurating an interactive exhibition titled “Desde Ávila para el mundo, 100 años de misión” at the Palacio de Los Verdugo on October 1. The exhibit uses photographs, panels, and a dedicated website to honor missionaries from the province who have served globally over the last century. The project aims to engage younger generations by sharing the personal stories and vocations of those who have worked to build communities and provide care in diverse cultures.
In Salamanca, the Diocesan Mission Service has organized a series of events throughout October to highlight missionary work. The program includes an Eucharist and a meeting with returning missionaries and volunteers at the Monastery of Santa María de la Vega on October 1. Other scheduled activities include the presentation of the 2026 DOMUND campaign and a diocesan celebration presided over by Bishop José Luis Retana on October 17, leading up to World Mission Sunday on October 18.
