Spanish dioceses implement pastoral reorganizations
Catholic dioceses in Spain are undergoing structural reorganizations to address demographic shifts and resource shortages.
In Huesca, Bishop Pedro Aguado Cuesta has announced new appointments and changes to priestly teams across various pastoral units, effective September 14. This follows a restructuring plan announced in May aimed at creating a more dynamic and participatory Church. The reorganization includes the establishment of four new archpriestships and ten pastoral units to improve service and administrative efficiency.
Similarly, the Diocese of Tortosa has implemented a major restructuring affecting 39 parishes across five archpriestships. Bishop Sergi Gordo noted that the changes are necessary due to a shortage of priests and the challenges of managing an extensive territory. A key feature of this reorganization is the ‘in solidum’ model in Tortosa city, where a team of rectors will jointly manage nearly all local parishes to ensure community coverage despite limited personnel.
