Spanish dioceses observe World Decent Work Day

Catholic dioceses in Spain, specifically Plasencia and Osma-Soria, held events to observe World Decent Work Day, focusing on the link between stable employment and the prevention of social exclusion.

In Plasencia, the Pastoral of Work met with social organizations and labor unions, including Comisiones Obreras and Unión General de Trabajadores, to discuss unemployment, precariousness, and the impact of labor conditions on family dignity. Participants highlighted that without decent work, vulnerable groups such as youth, women, and migrants struggle to access fundamental rights like housing.

In the Diocese of Osma-Soria, activities included a presentation of the IX FOESSA Report by Cáritas Española, which examines poverty and social exclusion in Spain. The diocese issued a manifesto advocating for secure, stable, and sufficiently remunerated employment, emphasizing human dignity over economic productivity and calling for fair wages and work-life balance.
