World Cerebral Palsy Day: Global calls for inclusion and caregiver support
On October 6, various global organizations and institutions observed World Cerebral Palsy Day to advocate for the rights, inclusion, and visibility of the more than 50 million people living with the condition.
In Honduras, the National Congress illuminated its facade in green to support the ‘Visibles 2026’ campaign. The local rehabilitation program, Prepace, continues to provide services across 24 municipalities.
In the Dominican Republic, the Nido para Ángeles Foundation highlighted the insufficient support for families and the barriers to healthcare, education, and employment. Similarly, in Spain, associations like ASPACE and PROI Ceuta organized marches and campaigns under the slogan ‘Cuidar sin renunciar’ (Care without giving up), demanding specialized public support systems and respite care to prevent caregivers from sacrificing their own lives.
Other regional actions included the green illumination of the Antwerp City Hall in Belgium and educational awareness initiatives in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The global movement emphasizes that the primary barriers for those with cerebral palsy are often social and physical environments rather than the medical condition itself, calling for improved accessibility and universal support.
