Spanish Diver Jaime González Rivas Leads Tiger Shark Tours in Maldives

Jaime González Rivas, a former professional in Spain, left his career to become a dive instructor and entrepreneur in the Maldives. He founded Drop Dive Maldives, offering guided encounters with tiger sharks, a species that often evokes fear but, according to González, is curious and non‑aggressive when observed responsibly.

Operating from the islands of Rasdhoo and Fuvahmulah, González emphasizes safety and education before any dive. Participants receive detailed briefings on positioning, communication, and appropriate reactions. The dives focus on controlled, respectful interaction: divers must avoid chasing, touching, or attempting to stage dramatic encounters with the sharks. González’s approach aims to replace sensationalism with informed appreciation of these large pelagic predators.

The Maldives locations differ: Rasdhoo features reefs, wrecks, mantas and reef sharks, while Fuvahmulah, near the equator, is renowned for pelagic species such as tiger sharks. González’s work highlights both the thrill of close encounters and the importance of preparation and respect for marine life.
