Spanish Electoral Board initiates proceedings against Pedro Sánchez

The Central Electoral Board (JEC) has opened disciplinary proceedings against Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez regarding a video posted on his social media accounts. The video, filmed at the Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum in Madrid, features Sánchez in front of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica, where he discusses his administration’s principles regarding global conflicts.

The JEC determined that the recording may have violated electoral laws (LOREG) concerning the use of public resources and institutional neutrality during an electoral period. The board has requested that Sánchez remove the video from his social media profiles and warned both the Presidency and the museum of the obligation to maintain institutional neutrality, prohibiting the use of public facilities for electoral purposes.
