Spanish enologists receive major industry accolades
Spanish viticulture has received significant recognition through recent industry awards. In the 42nd edition of the Guía Vinos Gourmets 2027, enologist Raúl Pérez was named Best Enologist. Pérez, known for his work in the D.O. Bierzo and Ribeira Sacra regions, has previously achieved 100 Parker points for his exclusive labels.
Other notable winners in the Guía Vinos Gourmets include Diez Siglos (D.O. Rueda) as Winery of the Year, and Mantequerías Bravo as the best specialized shop. The D.O. Rueda also received a Special Award of the Year for its national and international promotion.
Separately, the Guía Peñín has highlighted the work of Alicante-based enologist Pepe Mendoza and his project, Casa Agrícola. His wine, Fierroca 2024, made from the Giró grape variety, received 97 points, classifying it as ‘exceptional’. The guide praised Mendoza’s ability to elevate the Giró variety, noting the wine’s unusual fruitiness and fine tannins.
