Spanish farmers plan tractor protest and encampment in Madrid
Agricultural organizations in Spain, including ASAJA, COAG, and Unión de Uniones, have called for a major protest in Madrid on October 28. The mobilization, which includes participants from regions such as Extremadura and Murcia, is expected to involve approximately 500 tractors.
The protest will be followed by a 15-day encampment in the capital, lasting until November 12. Under the slogan “dar de comer debe dar para vivir” (feeding others must allow one to live), producers are demanding solutions to rising production costs driven by geopolitical conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Key demands include: • The implementation of professional diesel with reduced taxation for agricultural and apicultural use. • Protection of the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) with sufficient, independent funding. • Fair pricing through the effective application of the Food Chain Law to prevent industry and distribution dominance. • Increased reciprocity in international trade agreements, such as the EU-Mercosur deal, through mirror clauses and stricter customs controls. • A reduction in administrative bureaucracy and paperwork.
