Spanish farmers protest in Valladolid over cereal sector crisis

Agricultural organizations in Spain have resumed protests to demand solutions for declining profitability in the farming sector. In Valladolid, hundreds of farmers gathered in front of the Junta de Castilla y León headquarters to demand €150 million in direct aid to combat the cereal crisis.

Protesters cited a 40% reduction in harvest compared to 2025, low market prices, and rising production costs as primary drivers of the crisis. The mobilization was organized by ASAJA, UPA, COAG, and UCCL, who characterized the current economic situation for farmers as unsustainable.

Beyond Valladolid, protests and tractor demonstrations have been reported in Vitoria and are being planned for regions including Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, and Toledo. Agricultural leaders are calling for structural measures, including the strengthening of the Food Chain Law and drought declarations in specific regions to facilitate access to aid.
