Spanish farmers call for major tractor protest in Madrid on October 28
Major Spanish agricultural organizations ASAJA, COAG, and Unión de Uniones have announced a large-scale tractor protest in Madrid scheduled for October 28. The demonstration will conclude in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to demand urgent measures to address the sector's economic crisis.
Under the slogan ‘We produce your food, we deserve to live from our work’, the protesters are highlighting several key grievances. These include the rising costs of production—specifically fuel, fertilizers, and electricity—and a lack of profitability for farmers and livestock breeders. The organizations are calling for a permanent solution for agricultural diesel with reduced and stable taxation applied directly at the pump, rather than temporary subsidies.
Additional demands include a stronger Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) with sufficient funding, fair pricing through the enforcement of the Food Chain Law, protection against perceived unfair competition from international trade agreements, and a reduction in administrative bureaucracy.
