Spanish farmers to hold major tractor protest in Madrid

Agricultural organizations ASAJA, COAG, and Unión de Uniones, joined by Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de España, have organized a large-scale tractor protest in Madrid scheduled for Wednesday, October 28. Five columns of tractors will converge on the capital to march from Plaza de Colón toward the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food.

The demonstrators are demanding urgent solutions to several systemic issues facing the sector, including rising production costs and declining profitability. Their primary demands include the implementation of a professional agricultural diesel with reduced and stable taxation, a robust Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) with sufficient funding, and the enforcement of fair prices through the Food Chain Law.

Additionally, farmers are calling for greater regulatory reciprocity in international trade agreements to prevent unfair competition from imports that do not meet European standards, alongside a significant reduction in administrative bureaucracy. The mobilization occurs during a sensitive political period, ahead of upcoming general elections, highlighting the growing economic pressure on rural producers.
