Spanish film “El último mono” satirizes incel manosphere and gender polarization

Director Joaquín Mazón’s new comedy “El último mono” uses satire to explore the incel community and the online “manosphere” that fuels political and gender polarization in Spain. The film follows Alejandro (played by Juan Dávila), a self‑styled guru who promises his followers he will win over feminist activist Mariela (Susana Abaitua) in three days, exposing how social‑media personas exploit insecurity for profit. Mazón says, “Toda película debe representar lo que está sucediendo en la calle, pero prefiero desmontar la realidad de manera divertida,” and adds, “La vida no es de un solo color, ni todo es blanco ni todo es negro.”

The screenplay by Joaquín Oristrell and Yolanda García Serrano blends comedy with a critique of the incel phenomenon, portraying a spectrum of online male identities while highlighting the aggressive tone that replaces genuine debate. The film aims to reflect current social tensions without preaching, offering a humorous yet pointed commentary on how digital culture shapes gender relations.
