Spanish food companies invest in agricultural sustainability and labor
Major food industry players in Spain are implementing large-scale investments to address sustainability and labor challenges in the agricultural sector.
CAPSA Food, through its Lechera Asturiana group, plans to mobilize approximately 10 million euros by 2030 to promote generational renewal in the Asturian dairy sector. The ‘Territorio Lácteo’ strategy aims to attract young professionals by addressing training, housing access, financing, and rural services. A key component is the Paraíso Natural Academy, which will provide specialized training for livestock technicians to combat the shortage of qualified personnel.
Separately, Nestlé has invested 12 million euros since 2021 in regenerative agriculture projects involving approximately 500 Spanish farmers and ranchers. This initiative is part of the company’s broader goal to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050. The funds support technical assistance and training across various regions, including tomato production in Extremadura, cereal in Castilla y León and Navarra, and dairy production in the Cantabrian region.
