Spanish footballers return to play after long-term ACL injuries
Several Spanish football players have recently returned to competitive action following long-term injuries.
Borja Cortina, a defender for Atlético Levante, made his return to official matches after 394 days. His absence was due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture sustained in September 2025. Cortina, who has previously played for Levante UD's first team and represented Spain at the U-16 and U-17 levels, entered the match against SC Torrevieja in the 75th minute during a 4-1 victory.
Similarly, Javi Puado returned to the pitch at RCDE Stadium after 279 days following a right knee ACL injury sustained in January. Puado entered the match in the 82nd minute to a standing ovation from the crowd. Despite his return, the match resulted in a loss following a late goal by Atlético de Madrid.
